Heralding the Good News
Samaritan’s Purse evangelism programs are helping fulfill Jesus’ command to make disciples of all the nations
The small village of TmoSen began as a refuge for soldiers from the Khmer Rouge, the brutal Communist regime of dictator Pol Pot. The soldiers trickled away when Pol Pot was forced out of Cambodia, and gradually were replaced by poor farmers attracted by the promise of inexpensive land.
But whether soldiers with guns or farmers with hoes, one thing hadn’t come to TmoSen—the Gospel.
“They had never heard that there is a God that loves them,” a Cambodian pastor said.
Samaritans Purse implemented a clean water and hygiene program in TmoSen last year. On the closing day of the project, 200 villagers attended a celebration party. A staff member who is training to be a pastor got up to speak.
He talked about how the water filters make dirty water clean by removing the impurities. He then said all people do bad things called sin.
“Men and women are sinners,” he said. “We need a filter to purify our life. That filter is Jesus. The Christian God, Jesus, loves you. You must believe in Jesus and the gift of eternal life is yours.”
The villagers listened intently. “We want to hear more about this God that loves us,” a woman said.
The people of TmoSen had never heard the name Jesus until Samaritan’s Purse came to the village. Now after hearing the Gospel—and through follow-up work done by local Christians—they have the opportunity for eternal life through faith in Christ.
Around the world, Samaritan’s Purse is fulfilling Jesus’ command to “make disciples of all the nations” through our evangelism programs.
In South America, we are strengthening the indigenous church through classes in evangelism, discipleship, leadership development, and ministry.
In Africa, we are training pastors and Sunday school teachers, constructing churches, and helping rebuild Bible colleges.
In Asia, we are equipping volunteers to take the Gospel into unreached communities.
We provide Bibles and Christian literature in countries throughout the world, as well as equipment and tools for evangelists.
Wherever we work, our staff looks for appropriate ways to talk about why we are there—to let people know about the God who loves them so much He sent Jesus to provide the way to eternal life.
