World Medical Mission, the medical arm of Samaritan’s Purse, places Protestant Christian physicians and dentists for short term assignments at evangelical mission hospitals and clinics around the world.
Orthopedic Surgeon
Soddo Christian Hospital - Ethiopia — Soddo Christian Hospital is a 120 bed facility located in a mountainous region with beautiful weather and moderate temperatures. There are five wards (2) surgical, (1) maternity, (1) small ICU and (1) general. Current long term expatriate staff include (3) general surgeons, (1) orthopedic surgeon, (2) OBGs, (2) Pediatricians, (1) Anesthesiologist and (1) internist.
Soddo has (5) OR tables which are well equipped with nails and plates for orthopedic surgeries. Surgeries are scheduled each weekday and emergency surgeries are performed as needed.
The orthopedic needs at Soddo are increasing. Orthopedic surgeons who can commit to a minimum of two weeks of volunteer service are encouraged to apply. The long term orthopedic surgeon will be away from the hospital September 8 - October 5, 2012, for three weeks in December 2012 and the month of June 2013 thus the need is especially critical during these times.
The individual volunteer is responsible for all costs associated with the trip. World Medical Mission personnel will provide assistance in arranging all travel including international flights and in-country travel as well as any needed medical licenses, visas or permits.
